Climate Change Resilience and Sustainability in Healthcare at New Delhi

Register

Climate change represents one of the most significant global health threats of the 21st century. Positioned at the intersection of both cause and consequence, the healthcare sector faces a dual challenge: it contributes an estimated 4–5% of global greenhouse gas emissions—through energy consumption, anaesthetic gases and medical waste—while simultaneously responding to a growing patient burden driven by the adverse health impacts of climate change.

Responding to this critical juncture, NABH released the Guidebook on Climate Action and Sustainability in Healthcare on September 17, 2024, accompanied by a comprehensive self-assessment checklist. This pioneering document provides concept of sustainability in healthcare, outlines an implementation framework, and proposes a strategic model for adoption.
