Water conservation – To clean 100 Rooms in a healthcare facility: Microfiber mops need only 19 litres of water Vs 397 litres of water needed by cotton mops.

Challenges such as reliability on plastic items, transition requires a detailed plan and time also measures should comply with the legal and infection control guidelines which takes extra time for analysis and implementation.

Energy intensive machines (some drain immense power) and in a hospital set up are function 24/7. Identifying alternative options that do not counter the clinical requirements and ensure patient care as well is not hampered.

Success factors

Dedicated leadership and clinical governance – Safety governance programme lead and governed by the hospital leadership and reporting to the corporate governing body on a monthly basis.

Cross-functional committee – including clinical and non clinical team members to discuss progress, challenges action plan in one forum periodically.

Structed metric: Defined data sets to be captured and reported brings in more clarity.
