NABH–WSO Stroke Centre Certification Programme
The NABH–WSO Joint Stroke Centre Certification Programme is a joint initiative of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) and the World Stroke Organization (WSO) to strengthen and standardize stroke care across India through aligned national and international stroke standards.
The programme combines NABH’s expertise in healthcare quality and assessment with WSO’s internationally recognized stroke standards to support hospitals in strengthening stroke services and delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.
Hospitals may be certified at one of two levels depending on their stroke care capabilities, services, infrastructure, and workforce.

Essential Stroke Centre
Designed for hospitals providing organized acute stroke care with the infrastructure, workforce and processes necessary for timely assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of stroke patients.

Advanced Stroke Centre
Designed for hospitals providing comprehensive stroke services including advanced diagnostics, specialized multidisciplinary care, advanced stroke interventions and leadership within regional stroke systems of care.

Throughout the certification journey, NABH and the World Stroke Organization (WSO) will support participating hospitals through:
- Joint Learning Sessions:
Joint webinars and educational sessions on certification standards, programme requirements and implementation best practices. - Guidance Throughout the Certification Process:
Ongoing guidance and support, including opportunities for one-to-one discussions to address programme-related questions. - WSO Society Membership:
One year of WSO Society Membership for the hospital, providing access to stroke research, educational resources, webinars and global best practices. - Certification Toolkit:
Access to branding assets and communication templates to help hospitals announce and showcase their certification achievement. - Recognition and Global Visibility:
Recognition as an NABH–WSO Certified Stroke Centre and inclusion within the global network of WSO-certified stroke centres. - Continuous Quality Improvement:
Annual review of key stroke quality indicators to support continuous quality improvement and sustained adherence to certification standards. - Benchmarking with Global Best Practices:
Certified centres align with internationally recognised stroke care guidelines, gaining recognition for excellence in advanced stroke care, patient safety and clinical outcomes.
The programme is open to public and private hospitals providing stroke care services. Whether you are establishing a dedicated stroke programme or already providing advanced stroke services, certification offers a structured pathway to benchmark, strengthen, and continuously improve stroke care delivery
Hospitals may begin the certification process through either the WSO or NABH registration portal. Regardless of the entry point, all hospitals follow the same NABH–WSO Joint Stroke Centre Certification pathway.
1. Register through either the WSO or NABH registration portal.
2. Complete the WSO self-assessment to determine eligibility.
3. Pay the applicable certification fees to WSO and NABH.
4. Submit application details, supporting documents and quality indicators.
5. Undergo an on-site assessment conducted by NABH–WSO assessors.
6. Receive certification as an Essential Stroke Centre or an Advanced Stroke Centre.

Certification fees are paid separately through the respective NABH and WSO platforms.
NABH-WSO conducts Programme on Implementation (POI) training to help organisations understand and implement standards. Sessions are led by NABH – WSO senior assessors and held on request from the HCO.
