General Insurance Council (GIC)

The General Insurance Council (GIC) is the representative body of the general insurance industry in India, comprising all non-life insurance companies. It works towards strengthening the insurance ecosystem through policy advocacy, standardisation, and industry-wide initiatives. In collaboration with NABH, GIC aims to promote a transparent, objective, and quality-driven hospital empanelment framework that encourages wider adoption of recognised healthcare quality standards. The partnership seeks to strengthen patient safety, improve operational efficiency, accelerate digital health adoption, and enhance the overall quality of care, contributing to a more resilient and trusted healthcare ecosystem.

The NABH–GIC MoU represents a significant step towards aligning healthcare quality with insurance empanelment to build a more transparent, standardised, and patient-centric healthcare ecosystem. By integrating quality benchmarks into the hospital empanelment process, the collaboration will strengthen patient safety, promote consistent standards of care, and expand access to quality healthcare through a wider network of empanelled hospitals. The partnership will also support capacity building, accelerate the adoption of digital health and interoperability, improve operational efficiency and claims management, and foster greater transparency, trust, and better health outcomes for patients and all stakeholders.

The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to establish a collaborative framework between NABH and the General Insurance Council (GIC) to strengthen the hospital empanelment ecosystem by promoting transparent and standardised quality assessment, enhancing the quality and consistency of healthcare delivery through greater compliance with established care guidelines, and accelerating the adoption of digital health solutions in hospitals. The collaboration will also support the implementation of electronic claims (NHCX) and interoperability under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), contributing to a more efficient, patient-centric, and digitally enabled healthcare ecosystem.
