The FMS chapter focuses on ensuring a safe, functional, and supportive environment for patients, staff, and visitors. It requires the organization to plan and manage its physical infrastructure, utilities, and equipment in a manner that minimizes risks and supports safe patient care.

 

This chapter covers fire safety, disaster and emergency preparedness, medical equipment management, utility systems (electrical, water, medical gas), security, and environment-of-care rounds. It emphasizes a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating hazards across the facility

The organization has a documented facility management and safety programme covering the entire premises.

Fire safety systems are in place, tested, and staff are trained in fire and life safety procedures.

Medical equipment is inventoried, maintained, and calibrated as per a planned programme.

Utility systems, including electrical and water supply, have backup arrangements and are regularly monitored.

The organization has a disaster management plan addressing internal and external emergencies
