Nursing Excellence Certification Programme

Nursing professionals are the cornerstone of any quality-related programme within a healthcare organisation. With this in mind, the Nursing Excellence Standards have been developed to provide guidelines for evaluating the quality of nursing services delivered by a healthcare organisation.

The second edition of the Nursing Excellence Standards is structured into seven chapters, each addressing key professional, administrative and governance aspects of nursing. The chapter on Nursing Quality Improvement has been revised and is now titled Continuous Nursing Quality Improvement (CNQI), reflecting an increased emphasis on this critical area of healthcare. The chapter on Infection Control Practices has been updated to Infection Prevention and Control, while the chapter on Nursing Care of Patients has been redefined as Professional Nursing Practice (PNP). Additionally, the chapter on Empowerment and Governance has been expanded and is now titled Governance, Empowerment and Leadership (GEL).

Each chapter now includes a bibliography for reference, providing organisations with valuable resources to advance quality beyond the requirements of the objective elements.

  • Stimulates continuous quality improvement
  • Safe, effective, competent, and ethical nursing care
  • Regulating, guiding, and promoting professional nursing practice
  • Raises community confidence
  • Guidelines to nurse administrators and supervisors for supporting and facilitating nursing care
  • Opportunity for the healthcare unit to benchmark with the best

This is a two-year certification programme, applicable to hospitals that are duly accredited or certified by NABH. Healthcare organisations, regardless of size, role, or complexity, are eligible to apply for Nursing Excellence Certification.
