HCO Full Accreditation Masterclass – 6th Edition Chapter 02 – Care of Patients (COP)
The COP chapter focuses on the full patient care journey and ensures that care is standardized across outpatient units, daycare, inpatient areas, critical care units, procedure rooms, and operation theatres. It emphasizes written guidance, clinical coordination, and patient safety as the central principle of care delivery.
This chapter also includes emergency services, ambulance services, disaster preparedness, CPR services, nursing care, clinical procedures, transfusion services, and care in intensive care and high dependency units. In other words, COP links together the hospital’s major clinical functions into one structured and auditable care system
- Care must be uniform across all clinical settings and supported by written guidance
- Emergency services should comply with applicable laws, regulations, and documented processes
- Ambulance services must ensure safe transfer with appropriate patient care
- The hospital should have mechanisms for community emergencies, epidemics, and disasters
- Nursing care, CPR, clinical procedures, transfusions, and ICU/HDU care must be systematic and protocol-based
